Tenmyouya calling his works "Neo-Nihonga," a unique form of artistic expression that incarnates the traditional Japanese painting style in a comtemprary setting Tenmyouya established a school of art called "Buto-ha[Militant Faction]" in 2000 to fight the authoritarian system of the Japanese art world with art.
Some of the major group exhibitions he has participated in include the 2002 "Tenmyouya to Kyousai Ten[Tenmyouya and Kyosai Exhibition]"[Kawanabe Kyosai Memorial Museum] and "One Planet under a Groove"[Bronx Museum[New York] and Walker Art Center[Minneapolis]], the 2003 "The American Effect"[Whitney Museum[New York]], the 2006 "The Berlin-Tokyo Exhibition"[Berlin, Germany]], and the 2010 17th Biennale of Sydney [Sidney Australia].
