Ronin Gallery, Globus Washitsu, and ONBEAT Magazine announce that Masahiko Minami has been named the winner of the 2024 Ronin Globus Onbeat Artist-in-Residence Program.
This April, our distinguished panel of judges chose Minami based on three criteria: artistic excellence, clarity of concept, and originality.
As artist-in-residence, he will receive round-trip airfare between Tokyo and New York, accommodation at Globus Washitsu, and a studio space. During his stay in New York Minami will be featured in a solo exhibition at Ronin Gallery.
Following his return to Japan, he will receive a dedicated editorial in our next issue “ONBEAT vol.21”.
Masahiko Minami
Born in 1968 in Ibaraki. He draws sceneries using charcoal and pencil to describe universal emotions or Mujokan (the view of impermanence) by daringly excluding person in the images. As participating exhibitions and art fairs held in Norway, China and Korea, he has been received international recognition.

Ronin | Globus | ONBEAT Artist-in-Residence Program is the program presided by Ronin Gallery, Globus Washitsu and ONBEAT Corp. which aims to promote intercultural communication by offering Japanese young and mid-level artists the opportunity to stay New York so that they can concentrate on their creating and have an exhibition there.
